a week agoA true expectations vs. reality saga. Four days ago, while hosting guests, I ordered Crust Bakery’s 30-piece canapé platter via Talabat, priced at 20 JOD. The platter was advertised as a balanced selection of smoked salmon, roast beef, and turkey, an entirely reasonable offering, particularly given that one of our guests is pescatarian and does not eat most meats. What arrived, however, bore little resemblance to what was promised. Upon opening the box, I found not a single salmon canapé. Instead, the platter consisted solely of turkey and beef luncheon meat; a markedly cheaper substitute. The presentation was even more disappointing: tiny scraps of meat appeared to have been torn apart haphazardly and scattered with little care. Some pieces were so poorly assembled they contained no meat at all, just iceberg lettuce and tomato. It was, frankly, embarrassing to place this in front of guests. I contacted Talabat immediately. They agreed to issue a refund on the condition that the platter be collected. I accepted without hesitation and waited. Shortly after, the restaurant called me directly and assured me that collection was no longer necessary and that the refund would still be processed through Talabat. Fast forward to later that evening: Talabat informed me that instead of a refund, a 2 JOD compensation voucher had been added to my account and that I was ineligible for a refund because the platter had not been picked up? Four days later, after multiple messages to Talabat and several calls to the restaurant, nothing has been resolved. Talabat refuses to issue a refund or accept accountability. The restaurant insists the matter lies entirely with Talabat. And so I ask, is it really the responsibility of the consumer, who was clearly short-changed, to endlessly chase a resolution? A deeply disappointing experience, indeed.
